The ability to delete your own raffles (if no tickets have been placed) has now been fully released! Any user should now be able to access this option in case of accidental raffling.
There is also a new raffle update that's now available to upgraded players. Instead of just a dropdown to select adoptables for raffling, you can now use the realtime adopt selector that shows images and has searching capabilities. This will eventually be available to all players when it passes a testing period. It will replace the current adopt dropdown menu on the raffle.
The trading feature is now out and available for everyone!
This feature has been developed over the past few months and passed testing phases through staff and upgraded players. It is no longer restricted and can now be accessed by anyone.
If you find any bugs, let us know in the bug reports forum!
Taking its place in early access testing for upgraded players is the ability to open multiple item containers at a time!
Compression for ADOPTABLE IMAGES (not species files) is being turned off until further notice! This DOT NOT apply to items or species files and does not change the way species creation works. When you go to upload a species file in the artwork panel, make sure to select 'do not compress' if you want the file to be uploaded without compression. Keep doing as you would normally. This update does NOT affect creators.
For clarity, there are three types of compression on 4dopt:
- Compression of item artwork when an item is being uploaded by the creator (not affected by this update, these will still be compressed).
- Compression of species files when species files are being uploaded by the creator (not affected by this update, these will still be compressed).
This is what the update is affecting -> When an adoptable's image is rendered, all of its markings and other artwork 'layers' get mushed together into a single image based on species settings. The compression at this stage is being turned off.
Why are we turning this level of compression off?
A) We have more disk space right now and since we already have one level of compression for species files, having the second compression level turned off and getting higher quality adopt images would be a nice way to use the extra disk space.
B) There was a bug that sometimes caused adopt images to not render when compressed. Since Eve was already thinking about turning off the second level of adopt compression, this seemed like a better time than any.
This may be turned back on in the future: If we ever don't have enough disk space on the server, this second level of compression will be turned back on. This is a great tool to keep the site from crashing when not enough disk space is available! But it will need to be debugged if turned back on, and we've include notes on this in the code.
This bug only affects a very small number of adoptables, and we know how to identify and fix it now, so we should have an easier time coming back to this later if the second clevel of compresison is needed again.
What is compression? For those who are very, very confused right now: compression makes images smaller via file size (not dimensions), allowing files to take up less space on the server. We have custom 4dopt code for compression that attempts to get images to be smaller while reducing visual quality as little as possible. Creators can (and always have) been able to opt-out of compression, but it helps save space both for the server and creators who want to use it.

As planned, the crons are being turned back on so they will resume running today at midnight.
- The raffle will now be drawn at midnight.
- Shelter and explore adopts will go back to being periodically removed (no changes to mechanics).
- Upgrade counters will resume counting down as usual.
Also, an update has been made to the respawns button for upgraded players. Upgraded players will now see the overall count for items and adopts that have been respawned.
Also, for both upgraded and non upgraded players, the respawned items will now show overall quantity of items available in the respawn pools (instead of just the number of available stacks of items that were previously displayed).

Hello everyone! We are now back up. We apologize for the downtime. The server was down due to an error in our drive where we store all our files (we have backups of these, so data loss wasn't an issue, but the drive itself needed to be repaired by the host). Our host has been working hard on our case and also apologizes for downtime.
Everything should now be back to normal, but if you experience any issues, let us know either in the bug report forums or (for more serious issues) the Contact Us form. You can also contact staff on our Discord server.
During downtime, crons did not run so most of the site has been frozen. However, adopts ages are based on timestamps, so adopts did age up. Because of this, we are implementing some temporary changes to the site, which will be in effect until August 10.
- the raffle will not be drawn
- upgrade (regular and artist) counters will be frozen (you will still get perks, but the upgrade time will not go down during this time)
- shelter and explore adopts will not be deleted
- some items have been sent out to players! These are special rare items that can only be obtained from staff. You will see them in your inventory. Thank you Marcel for helping with these items!
