Egg won the Spotlight Contest!
Egg won against 191 contestants with 297 opponent votes.
The jackpot was 215,850 PTS, 5,805 adopt EXP, 3,695 energy, and 2,540 account EXP.
Item use icons for advanced playstyle users have now been added to the shop stocking section of the site (where you can price and remove items from your shop).
The advanced playstyle is available in your account settings.
The Terms of Service have been updated. Make sure that to review these terms as many have been revised.
A new auction snipe guard is now in place!
Instead of counting down the final minutes of an auctions, auctions will now say 'Ending Soon' within the last hour or so of an auction.
The time is not exactly an hour for all auctions. There is an additional randomized number that makes the remaining time more obscure, though is close to the hour mark.
The display name feature is now available in your account settings!
You can now change your display name at any time. These have the same restrictions as username, except they can be altered whenever you want.
Users will still be able to identify you by your user ID and you will still need your username for logging in.
Also, older notification will still show your previous name (though they are eventually deleted by the system over time and can also be deleted by players).
This is a heads up that, later today, there is going to be an update that will make auction sniping more difficult.
The timer on auctions will no longer be precise near the end of the auction. It will say 'ending soon' to trip up anyone trying to guess the exact time an auction ends.
4dopt does not have any rules against sniping and users are not punished for it, but we are going to make it more difficult to do so that more players have a chance at winning auctions through bidding rather than timing and internet speed.
This update will take place at some point later today.
File Size Dimensions Restriction
There is a new restriction on the art file panel for species artists. Canvas size for a species must be the same for all files. For example, if you have a 500x500px species, it will not allow you to upload files that are 200x200px or other unmatching dimensions.
This update was made with two things in mind:
1. Preventing artists from accidentally uploading files of the wrong size, which would cause layering mistakes
2. Resolve bugs caused by the image system retrieving the wrong file dimensions
If you have any species that have files that are different canvas sizes, we recommend that you replace the files with properly sized ones to prevent fix (this is not required, but staff may fix files in the future if bugs are found).
Various Image Bugs
With the new restriction in place, we have ruled out a potential cause for adopt broken image bugs. However, we have found that current broken image bugs have persisted after this fix. With further investigation, it looks like there may be at least 3-4 different additional image-related bugs that are currently causing broken images.
1. The layer order bug, which we have a layer order fixing solution to and will continue to fix affected adoptables. However, this may be a little slow as we are also trying to figure out the other bugs.
2. A 'missing file' bug that we do not know much about, other than that it seems to have something to do with a nonexistent file being found on adopts with broken images.
3. A third bug that may have something to do with file sizes, but we're not sure on this.
4. Another bug, or possible the same as one of the above, but something to do with Creator Shadow.
We are continuing to investigate these various image bugs. If you find any additional info, feel free to let us know in the bug reports forum.
A new blocking feature is being added in a few minutes! Blocking adopt images by adopt ID will be live after this update. However, we are only making this take effect on adopt profiles while we test it with players, just in case the new feature causes unforseen bugs.
Those who don't want to take any chances of being exposed to blocked adopt images - don't visit adopt profiles of things that you've blocked while we test this new feature out.
For those who don't mind potentially being exposed and want to help test the new blocking features, check out adopt profiles of content you have blocked and let staff know if you encounter any bugs.
You can block adoptable images by ID through your settings page (the cog on your left sidebar).

@everyone FOR THOSE WHO HAVE BLOCKED ADOPTABLES IMAGE CONTENT ON THE SITE, this is a warning that you MIGHT be exposed to blocked content, when it will happen, and how to avoid it. If this is a concern to you, read below.
We are going to be updating 4dopt's blocking system tomorrow (most likely, but not 100% guaranteed).
The update will take effect when you see a news post on the official site saying that it is in effect. This is when you MIGHT start being exposed to the content that you blocked.
This update is being done to add the ability to block adoptables by ID, expanding on the existing system.
The new feature has been tested by staff, BUT, just to be safe (because there is always at least a small chance unforseen bugs when adding a new feature), this announcement is just a heads up of what to expect.
We are going to start out by only implementing this update on adopt profiles. That way users who don't want to risk seeing anything can more easily avoid it when it goes live, and still be able to use the rest of the site.
Those who don't want to take any chances of being exposed to blocked adopt images - don't visit adopt profiles of things that you've blocked when this update goes live.
For those who don't mind potentially being exposed and want to help test the new blocking features, check out adopt profiles of content you have blocked and let staff know if you encounter any bugs.
We will expand this update to the rest of the site it's been live on adopt profiles for a bit, just to be sure everything's working as intended.
